Raccoon

The Raccoon is a carnivore mammal, omnivore and of medium size. Solitary and nocturnal.

Its weight varies depending on the habitat, varying from 5.5 to 15 kg. Is characteristic dark coloration of his skin around the eyes, and tail with alternating light and dark colors as rings. The coat can be gray, brown or black, rarely albino. Raccoons have 40 teeth adapted to an omnivorous diet. The molars are not as wide as herbivores or incisors as sharp and pointed as those of carnivores.

Habitat & Range: Water bodies like rivers, streams, wetlands, mangroves, dry forests, humid forests, and gallery forests.

In Costa Rica, the Raccoon inhabits across the all country, from sea level to 1,500 m. approx.
