Throated Hummingbird
The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird measures about 7-9.5 cm long, has a wingspan of 8-11 cm and weighs 2-6 g. It has a metallic green backs, the male has iridescent red throat (may appear black when changing angle) and the female is white. The rest of the lower parts is grayish white, the wings are almost black. The tail is short, at the male is in the female forked and almost not. The bill is long and straight hairs. The male is smaller than the female, and has slightly short peak.
Hummingbird Vocalizations are quick chirps, squeaks and are primarily used to threaten.
Habitat & Range: Secondary forests, thickets, edges of deciduous forests, sometimes in gallery forests, coffee plantations and gardens in rural areas.
In Costa Rica, the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird should be located in northern Pacific lowlands. It's rare to occasional throughout the Central Valley and southern Pacific lowlands, and so, though very rare, in the region of Los Chiles-Rio Frio, in the rest of Caribbean.
